Vita R. Greco, ICE-CCP
Senior Director of Psychometric Services, Professional Testing Corporation
The purpose of certification in neurodiagnostic practice is to help ensure safe, competent care for patients. Especially in the context of protecting the public, achieving EEG and IONM certification demonstrates that a practitioner has met defined standards for practice, but the process is often misunderstood. This presentation provides an overview of the certification exam lifecycle, describing how these exams are developed and maintained while addressing common misconceptions and clarifying how the process actually works. Topics include job task analysis, test blueprint/specifications, item writing and review, exam development, standard setting, exam delivery, scoring & reporting, and ongoing psychometric analysis and evaluation. By increasing transparency into how credentialing exams are designed, validated, and continuously improved, this session provides attendees with a clearer understanding of the rigor and safeguards that support certification programs and ensure adherence to accreditation standards.
